Advisory and Corporate
Technical Writer
Produce the documentation agencies keep: runbooks, specifications, handover packages, and reference material staff actually use.
A project is not finished until the agency can run it without the vendor, and that is a writing problem as much as an engineering one. This role produces the documentation that makes handover real, and the reference material HQT publishes for agency readers.
What you will do
- Write and maintain runbooks, operations guides, and handover documentation for delivered systems.
- Produce technical specifications and requirements documents alongside engineers.
- Write quick reference material for counter and phone staff who have four minutes, not forty.
- Edit engineering writing into plain, declarative prose without draining the substance out of it.
- Maintain the reference library HQT publishes for agency procurement, technology, and program staff.
- Build documentation practice into delivery so it is written during the work, not after it.
What we are looking for
- Three or more years of technical writing for a technical audience.
- Ability to interview an engineer and come back with something correct.
- Structured authoring and version control as normal practice.
- Plain language discipline, including for readers who are not technical.
- Accuracy about standards, regulations, and what is actually claimed.
- Portfolio of work you wrote rather than assembled.
Helpful to have
- Public-sector or regulated-industry documentation.
- Experience with documentation in a source repository alongside code.
- Accessibility knowledge for published documents.
- Proposal writing experience.
