QA and Test Engineer

Plan and run the testing that lets an agency accept a system with confidence, including systems built by someone else.

Acceptance is where an agency's leverage lives, and it is usually spent badly. This role plans and executes testing on our own builds and, as often, on systems a vendor delivered to a customer who needs to know whether it works.

What you will do

  • Write test plans and cases traced to requirements and to payment milestones.
  • Build automated tests in the pipeline and know which cases should stay manual.
  • Run user acceptance testing with agency staff, using data that resembles production in volume and messiness.
  • Test integrations against real connected systems rather than a simulated endpoint.
  • Track defects with severity and a written disposition, so nothing reaches go-live undecided.
  • Test accessibility and performance, not only function.

What we are looking for

  • Three or more years in software testing or quality assurance.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks and continuous integration.
  • Ability to write a test case someone else can execute and get the same answer.
  • Defect triage and clear reproduction steps.
  • Comfort holding a deliverable to its stated acceptance criteria.
  • Patience for the unglamorous path through a system.

Helpful to have

  • Public-sector acceptance testing experience.
  • Performance and load testing.
  • Accessibility testing with assistive technology.
  • Experience supporting an independent verification effort.

Screening and eligibility

This position may require fingerprint-based background screening under the CJIS Security Policy before access to customer systems is granted. Some customer programs require United States citizenship. Eligibility is confirmed before assignment, not at application.
