Full Stack Software Engineer

Engagements here are small teams on real systems. This role spans the stack, which in practice means you will be close to the people who use what you build and will see the consequences of the shortcut you were tempted to take.

What you will do

• Build features end to end, from schema through service to interface.
• Work directly with program staff to understand the process before proposing to change it.
• Demonstrate working software in an environment the agency controls, every iteration.
• Fix defects inside the iteration rather than parking them for a stabilisation period that keeps growing.
• Write the tests and the documentation as part of the work, not after it.
• Participate in the handover that lets agency staff maintain what was built.

What we are looking for

• Three or more years building and shipping web applications.
• Competence on both sides of the stack, with depth on at least one.
• Relational databases and the ability to reason about a slow query.
• Version control, code review, and automated testing as normal practice.
• Willingness to work on systems that matter more than they glitter.
• Clear written communication with non-engineers.

Helpful to have

• Public-sector experience.
• Low-code platform experience alongside custom development.
• Exposure to accessibility requirements.
• Experience on a system with statutory deadlines.

Screening and eligibility

This position may require fingerprint-based background screening under the CJIS Security Policy before access to customer systems is granted. Some customer programs require United States citizenship. Eligibility is confirmed before assignment, not at application.
