Engineering and Infrastructure
Network Engineer
Design, upgrade, and segment the networks that connect agency sites, staff, and field equipment.
Agency networks grow by accretion: a building here, a camera project there, a fibre run funded by a grant. This role is about bringing that into a design someone can reason about, and sequencing replacement by risk rather than by age.
What you will do
- Design campus, branch, and wide area networks connecting agency facilities, remote sites, and field equipment.
- Plan refreshes by support lifecycle and dependency rather than by equipment age alone.
- Implement segmentation between business systems, public safety systems, operational technology, and guest access.
- Plan for power over Ethernet demand from cameras, access points, and phones, including the closet conditions that quietly limit an upgrade.
- Build monitoring that tells an operator something is wrong before a resident does.
- Support incident response when the network is the suspect.
What we are looking for
- Four or more years designing and operating enterprise networks.
- Strong routing and switching fundamentals, and the ability to troubleshoot from first principles.
- Experience with firewalls, VPN, and network access control.
- Familiarity with wireless design and site survey practice.
- Documentation habits: diagrams that match what is installed.
- Willingness to work maintenance windows outside public-facing service hours.
Helpful to have
- Experience on public safety or dispatch networks.
- Familiarity with CJIS network requirements.
- Exposure to operational technology networks in utilities or public works.
- Network certification at a professional level or above.
