Engineering and Infrastructure

Electrical Engineer, Power and Facilities Systems

Cover the electrical side of agency facilities work: distribution, standby power, and the building systems that now sit on the network.

Agency buildings carry more networked equipment every year: access control, cameras, building automation, electric vehicle charging, and the standby power that has to carry all of it. This role is the electrical engineering behind that, including the parts that have quietly become IT problems.

What you will do

  • Produce and review electrical designs for agency facilities, including distribution, panel schedules, load calculations, and grounding.
  • Specify standby and emergency power, including generators, transfer switches, and uninterruptible power supplies for server rooms and dispatch floors.
  • Size and sequence electrical capacity for vehicle charging at corporation yards and fleet facilities.
  • Review building automation, access control, and camera system designs for power, pathway, and network implications.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, structural, and IT disciplines so conflicts surface on paper rather than in the field.
  • Support commissioning and write the acceptance criteria the agency will test against.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four or more years of building or facility electrical design.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and California amendments.
  • Experience sizing standby power for critical facilities.
  • Ability to produce drawings and specifications a contractor can build from.
  • Valid driver licence and willingness to travel to sites in Southern California.

Helpful to have

  • Professional Engineer licence in California, or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Experience with public works delivery and prevailing wage projects.
  • Familiarity with power over Ethernet planning for cameras, access points, and phones.
  • Commissioning authority experience.
