- Editorial planning. A calendar for the year that ties each issue to the seasons, events, and deadlines its readers care about.
- Masthead and type system. A cover and a set of page layouts that make every issue recognizable before a word is read.
- Page layout. Features, profiles, timelines, calendars, directories, and notices, laid out issue by issue.
- Photography direction. Choosing, cropping, and captioning the photographs an organization already has, and planning the ones it needs.
- Print production. Print-ready files at the trim size, with bleed and color set for the press, coordinated with HQT's print and mail services.
- Digital edition. A flipbook that turns like the printed copy, built from real text so it is searchable and works with a screen reader.
How the work runs
Each issue starts with a page plan agreed with the editor: what runs, where, and at what length. HQT lays out the pages, the editor reviews proofs, and corrections go round until the issue is approved. The printed copy and the digital edition are made from the same pages, so they never disagree.
Why the digital edition is real text
Many digital magazines are pictures of printed pages. A reader cannot search them, a screen reader cannot read them, and a search engine cannot index them. HQT builds the digital edition from the text itself, laid out to match the print pages exactly, so every reader gets the whole magazine.
